Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift agreed to a three-year, $33.75 million contract extension on Wednesday, securing his future with the team just days before the 2026 NFL season begins.

The deal includes $27.5 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Swift was entering the final year of his previous contract before the extension.

Swift joined the Bears in 2024 and has become a cornerstone of Chicago's offense. Over 33 regular season games with the Bears, he has carried the ball 476 times for 2,046 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 76 receptions. He also contributed 32 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown in postseason play.

The extension comes during a busy summer for running back contracts across the NFL. Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, and Jonathan Taylor all agreed to new deals over the summer, establishing a market that Swift's representatives could reference in negotiations.

Swift's production has justified the Bears' investment. His 2,046 rushing yards over two seasons represent consistent output from the backfield position, while his receiving ability adds another dimension to Chicago's offensive attack.

The timing of the extension removes a potential distraction as the Bears prepare for their season opener. Rather than entering the year with questions about Swift's future, the team can focus on building around a running back they've now committed to through the 2028 season.

Chicago's decision to extend Swift reflects the organization's confidence in both his abilities and his fit within their offensive system. The guaranteed money in the deal provides Swift with financial security while giving the Bears cost certainty for their backfield.

The extension also signals the Bears' intentions to compete in 2026. By locking up a key offensive player before the season begins, Chicago demonstrates its commitment to maintaining continuity in a position that has produced consistent results.
