Five-star combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. committed to UConn men's basketball on Thursday, giving coach Dan Hurley his first recruit from the 2027 class and another high-profile addition to the program's pipeline.

Bowman Jr., ranked No. 11 in the Class of 2027 according to the 247Sports composite rankings, chose the Huskies after taking his first and only official visit to Storrs last weekend. The commitment was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Sherman Oaks, California native is the son of NaVorro Bowman, the four-time All-Pro linebacker who spent most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. Standing 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-7 wingspan, Bowman Jr. fits the mold of guards in the Hurley era.

"While he's a bit of a volume scorer, who shot 42% from the floor on 17 attempts per game, he's talented with the ball and a true three-range threat," said 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein. "He handles, has stop-and-go change of pace, sharp changes of direction, a good left hand, and the physicality to initiate and absorb contact."

Bowman Jr. brings impressive credentials to Storrs. He was a starter on a Team USA FIBA U17 team that won gold at the World Cup this past season and averaged over 20 points during EYBL play. Finkelstein noted that Bowman is already "physical and functionally strong" and described him as a "rapidly ascending guard who combines physicality, athleticism, playmaking, and shot-making."

The recruit is regarded as someone who can score at every level offensively while bringing hard-nosed tenacity on the defensive end. His scouting report shows he's "a tough shot-maker off the dribble, with pull-up range that now extends well beyond the arc," though he shot 33% from three on more than six attempts per game.

Prior to committing to UConn, Bowman Jr. had official visits scheduled to Texas, Arizona and Illinois. He had been linked to Arizona and Texas throughout the recruiting process before his visit to Connecticut changed his trajectory.

The commitment addresses a clear need for the Huskies. With current guards Silas Demary Jr., Braylon Mullins and Colben Landrew already appearing in NBA mock drafts, guard depth for the 2027-28 season and beyond was a priority for Hurley and his staff.

Given Bowman Jr.'s pedigree, he could potentially join Solo Ball in the starting backcourt for UConn during his first season in Storrs. The recruit represents the fourth five-star player Hurley and his staff have landed since 2023, joining Stephon Castle (2023), Liam McNeeley (2024) and Braylon Mullins (2025).

Bowman Jr. is currently the highest-ranked player in the 2027 class to commit to any school, positioning UConn well for another top recruiting class with him serving as the anchor. The Huskies' 2026 recruiting class featured two top-50 players in Colben Landrew and Junior County and finished 19th in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

Despite having just one commitment so far, UConn's 2027 recruiting class already shows promise with Bowman Jr.'s addition. His commitment continues Hurley's success in attracting elite talent to the program that has won back-to-back national championships.
